30 Jul 2008 Domestic worker visa saved Greycoat Placements is delighted to see that the Government has reversed its plans to scrap the domestic worker visa. The announcement made on 25th June 2008 states that the Government will continue to operate the current domestic worker visa arrangements for 2 years after the introduction of the reformed immigration system.
Domestic Workers provide a vital source of support for busy families including in the care of children and elderly relatives. The original plans were due to scrap the ability for a domestic worker to change employers – a clause that enabled workers to escape abusive employment relationships with families. The Government’s plan of being able to recruit from EU citizens would also not have been able to meet the increasing demand in the market place for staff to work in private households. This announcement is excellent news for all families who engage domestic workers and creates stability in the market place.
Managing Director, Stephanie Rough, has been working with REC and fellow REC member companies, undertaking research to bring awareness to this issue and has also made representation to the Home Office. Greycoat Placements will continue to monitor further changes and update clients and candidates as and when appropriate.
